We scooped up my Mom at the airport, rented a Taurus from Hertz and drove west to San Diego. We were amazed at the windmill farms. We rented two rooms at the TravelLodge in the Hotel Circle and had lunch at the Mission Valley Diner. We drove to the Old Town Market to buy tickets for the Old Town Trolley. There was a detailed display of the history of San Diego. We jumped onto the trolley. The driver Larry took us on a trip to the
San Diego Harbor, home of the Midway Aircraft Carrier, Seaport Village, Marriott Hotel & Marina, Horton Plaza Shopping Center, Gaslamp Quarter, Coronado, San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park / El Prado. The view from the bridge that crosses over to Coranado is great. We returned to the Old Town Market and had a Mexican dinner at Fred's.
April 12th, 2007
We had breakfast at the Mission Valley Diner then went to Sea World. We stopped at The Morongo Casino and had breakfast. Next we dropped in on Kitty and Bill, friends of my Mom, in Yucca Valley. They have two houses with beautiful views. The larger, more outstanding house is just being completed and they are moving from one to the other. We drove to 29 Palms and stopped at the Oasis of Mara, the north entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park, we drove to the Jumbo Rocks, Sheep Pass, Ryan Mountain and stopped at Keys View (SlideShow). Keys View is 5185ft and overlooks the Little San Bernardino Mountains, Desert Hot Springs, Indio Hills, Palm Springs, Catherdral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert and Indio known as the Coachella Valley. We had a late lunch at Applebee's. Our next stop was at Judy's home, a friend of my Mom, to retrieve her car. We went onto the Comfort Inn in Palm Desert. Mom came back and took us to an awesome show (SlideShow) called The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies. We met Mom and went to the Street Market at The College of the Desert. We had lunch at Foster's Deli, then went to a huge second hand shop in Catherdral City. Then we went to a Friendship Dinner at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage. He wished he had finished school but the things that he taught they didn't teach me in school. He taught unconditional love in the way he treated Lady. Bravery in the way he was with Toby. Dexterity when he baked and decorated. How to pay attention to things that really mattered. What it means to be a dime a dozen. How to be a collector. That hard work really pays off. Patience from sitting in the boat on the lake with the water all still watching the bobber. Tolerance when I dropped his favorite pole in the murky sound. Understanding when Grandma gave him a piece of her mind, and how to be a dreamer so you can have peace of mind.
I stand here before you in celebration of his life. The way he cared for others, the way he cared for his wife. The baker he was spending many an hour. He had business going using the power of flour. The dreamer he was, The two dollar bills. The fishing boat, Golfing on the hills. The match book collection, The doughnut holes. The way he looked over the glasses on his nose. The time that he spent explaining the details
When he came home the dogs wagged their tails. Grandmas homecooking, The smell of cigars. Bowling with friends, late nights playing cards. Grandpa moves on to beyond and above. Leaving so many friends and the family he loved. Safe travels Grandpa

This is Alicia's addition. Alicia is one of 18 great grandchildren, Aunt Jo's grandchild and Joey's child. She read this at the post funeral gathering at the Delevan VFW Hall.
I have something so special that most kids never get, I got to meet my great grandpa!!!! My grandpa is special in so many ways, I remember a little snow globe with a golf ball in it and you had to try to get the gold ball on the tee!!!! whenever I would go over and visit I would try but I never got it!!!! I also remember that Grandpa had this little bowl of candy, He would always want to make sure that I had one, I would get there and he'd be like "get a candy" then a little while later he would say "did you get a candy yet, go ahead grab a few pieces." I feel so blessed that I had a chance to get to know my great grandpa. I also realize that the reason they call him a GREAT Grandpa is because he truly was great in so many ways I can't tell you them all!!!!!
Alicia Mueller

This is Catherine's addition. Catherine is the first of 11 grandchildren. Millie's daughter. She read this after the communion part of Grandpa's funeral mass.
I am standing upon the sea shore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the
morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says; "There, she is gone!" "Gone where?" Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says, "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!" And that is dying. - Henry Van Dyke

To view Millie's addition please visit cory-toste.com

T.H.A.N.K.S.

View a WebSlideShow
My Mom was visiting last October and really enjoyed the Trail for Health, Art and Nature for Kids to Seniors. Aunt Jo created a feast for our before Christmas dinner. Here's Jean sipping on Egg Nog made with white chocolate. Callie, Jo's daughter, came sporting a Santa hat with a Packer's emblem. Alicia was brading on Dale. Uncle Ralph can really decorate for Christmas. Here's a left view, a right view, and a dark of night view of the exterior luminations. We went back to the Maney's. Sarah, Jean, Cathy and I watched "It's a Wonderful Life" while Steve, Kyle, Aaron and Ryan went to challange each other at billiards.
December 17th, 2006
Jean, Kyle, Sarah, Jean, myself met Russel, my friend, for breakfast at Grandma Sally's in Naperville. Since Steve and Kyle missed a chance to visit with their Aunt Lydia and Uncle Fernando they decided to spend some time with their Grandpa Benner. On they way there we made a stop in Elmhurst. To my surprise and what seemed so whack? Mr. and Mrs. Claus pulled up in a gold Cadilliac. So I grabbed my camera, jumped out of the van and said, "May I take one of you both, if I can"? Santa said, "Sure!" and I took it as soon as I could, then I asked if Mrs. Claus to take one of me with Santa, if she would. Then Santa gave me his card that read "Keep on being good". Ho, Ho, Ho. We droped off Sarah, Kyle and Steve by their Grandpa. Jean and I had the van washed and went shopping at the 5 Star Flea Market. It was really, really hispanic and that's how we liked it. We picked up everyone. Went to Sym's and then drove through Portillo's. Then we headed to Tinley Park to the home of Jack and Betty Cory. We went on a tour of their home, Jack's wonderful nostalgic bar and celebrated in the recreation room. Betty created a feast for us, Cathy, Marian, Jim and Donna. Here is Betty, Steve, Jack and Kyle version I and version II, Sarah and Kyle, and all of us. Betty also makes handbags, and Jean got one as a gift. Kyle, Steve and myself received warmers. Jean and Connie, Betty's sisters, and Tom, Connies husband, arrived. We planned a trip to the city and talked for some time.
December 18th, 2006
I found my Dad in the kitchen working a crossword. Betty put together breakfast and after we ate we prepared to go downtown. Dad dropped us at the Metra and we rode to the Lasalle Street Station where we met up with Callie. Next to the Chicago Board of Trade. Here's a shot of Sarah, Steve, Jean, Kyle and Callie. The CTA bus brought us to the Field Museum of Natural History.
Entrance and Statue. Suzy, Suzy II and Suzy III. Elephants I and Elephants II. Totems, Totem I and Totem II. Terradactyl I and Terradactyl II. Native American model home, Jean and I inside one and some artwork. Jean with a Stegasoras, Steve with a Raptor, and Steve getting his head bit off. Callie and me. Wow.
We had lunch with the O'Brien's and traveled to the home of David and Lou Zajieck in Naperville. They decided to vent a little anxeity by having a group therapy session. My aunt Lou is an awesome cook. We went to the Naperville Riverwalk. Then we visited points of interest for the modernizing of Naperville. We drove to Mount Prospect and had Applebees. Then we visited with Dave, Chris, Cathy and met Jason at 303 Transportation. He only played about 30 minutes and Eric Clapton came on. Pretending was the opening song and Eric had Derek and Doyle play the leads. I Shot the Sheriff was followed by Got To Get Better. Willie Weeks played a solo. Robert Cray came out and played Old Love. Robert can sing much better than Eric. Anyday was next and Doyle sang that. Eric changed to a black stratocaster and played Motherless Children. That was amazing to hear three slide guitars in harmony at once. A sit down session followed. Back Home with Steve Jordan drumming was really good. Derek played slide on I Am Yours. Nobody Knows You was a very deep moment for me. Running on Faith featured Derek playing some solos.

Eric was brought a Gibson ES-335 and the band belted out After Midnight and Little Queen of Spades. Then they all played solos for Further On Up The Road. Wonderful Tonight calmed the audience a bit and was followed by Layla. Wow, I never heard it like that before. They played Cocaine and finally Crossroads as an encore. That was excellent.

Eric Clapton (guitar / vocals), Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Derek Trucks (guitar), Willie Weeks (bass), Steve Jordan (drums), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Tim Carmon (keyboards), Michelle John (backing vocals), Sharon White (backing vocals)

Eric Schopler (1927 - 2006)

A weblog was created in memory of Dr. Eric Schopler (1927-2006), a professor of psychiatry and psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill for more than 40 years and a pioneer in the humane and effective treatment of autism. In an era when parents were blamed for causing what was felt to be a psychological problem, Eric was one of the first to use empirical research to establish the true, neurological basis of autism and its effective treatment -- treatment that included parents as co-therapists. His methods have been studied and adopted by autism programs around the world, bringing hope and brighter futures to thousands of families in dozens of countries. In the process, hundreds of people have come to know and admire him and have been privileged to call him "friend". The web log is dedicated to sharing and preserving the memories that these friends, family and colleagues have of this truly unique and great man. - (Brenda Denzler)

I am the parent of an autistic man who goes by the name of Jason. Accepting that my son was autistic was one of the most confusing and difficult trials I have been through in my life. I became a member of the Autism Society of America, or the ASA, in 1987 soon after I had received a diagnosis from Dr. Cook at the University of Chicago. I wanted to keep informed about autism and felt they might help me cope with the hand I had been dealt. They began sending the Autism Advocate, a newsletter, which I began to read cover to cover with the hope they would discover a breakthrough or a miracle drug that would restore speech, calm behaviors or help to learn.
One day in August of 94 the mail slot clinked and there was Dr. Eric Schopler on the cover of the ASA newsletter. It featured Eric in an interview, better known as "Ask the Experts", that changed my point of view of autism. I noticed that Eric held value in the parent’s perspective. In the interview, Eric explained the six principles that guided the TEACCH system. I was amazed that there was a system and that it helped to observe and evaluate each individual and how to use their strengths to help them learn. It was incredible that behavior and cognitive theories could be used as a basis for useful interventions. It was then I knew there really was an Autism Expert. Dr. Eric Schopler.
Some people don’t believe in destiny or fate. As fate would have it, Chicago with the cold and the snow and the divorce and the lack of services and lost schools would lead me to Eric. So here’s the story of a man named Cory who was bringing up three boys on his own. They were four men living all together but they were all alone. And then one day when this CHALU met this fellow, and they knew that it was much more than a group, that this bunch could somehow form a family. That’s they way they became part of the Schopler soup.
Eric was a brilliant humanitarian, developed the autism rating scale, honed in on collaborating with parents and professionals, helped build support communities, and founded an internationally known treatment program that helped people in great numbers.
I got to know Eric in a special way. A way in which everything is logical, communication is understood using electricity and words, viruses and infections are not easily removed, and photos and colors are used for visual effects. I’ll always think that I helped Eric to handle his computing, but I’ll always know that Eric helped the world to handle their understanding of autism. Even when there were crackers adding salt and soaking it up, it felt warm and soothing to be a noodle in the soup. - (Steve Cory)

Jack Justice (1922 - 2006)

There was a service in thanksgiving for the life of Jack Justice. Jack is survived by Mary, his beloved wife; John and George, his sons; Barbara, Jean, and Anna, his daughters; Jennifer, Nathan, Amy, David, Adam, John, Jason, Eric, Jeff, Rick and Ashton, his grandchildren. Jack was a member of the Pittsboro Baptist Church and will forever rest in their shadows.
He was a great friend and mentor to me and as I came to know him better, he was the same to many others. He was a very understanding and giving person. I am still amazed at how much he helped me and how my life changed because of his graciousness. That was Jack. He was humble and he helped others, but he kept these good deeds to himself. He was not one to brag or boast. What was even more incredible, is how his heart so huge could fit in a town so small. He was truly blessed and he will be sorely missed.
In his own right, Jack was also a poet. In his memory, I felt that now was the time to post some of his works.
Christmas • Christmas and I • Goodbye • Growing Old • Our Bosses • Progress • The Lions Club • T.N.D. • To Mary

My friend Jack,

Sometime ago Jack asked me to make some remarks at his funeral. ... if I could think of something good to say. (Doesn't that sound just like Jack?) I told him that I thought I might be able to think of something ..... and so today I am honoring his request. Jack has touched the lives of many of you in different ways, but these remarks are my thoughts about him.
I never bought a car from Jack. Burnice always told him that anyone could get along with a Chevrolet until they could buy a Ford. Jack always had choice words to answer that.
I never played golf with him, never played cards, never discussed financial affairs with him. I never asked a favor of him when he was mayor of Pittsboro or talked politics. But I was involved with some things concerning Jack that some may not know or remember.
Jack was always interested in this church, holding membership here since 1937. He was a deacon, chairman of the Finance Committee, and served on several other committees. I remember him most as chairman of the Planning and Survey Committee in the 1960s when the church was preparing to enter into the third building phase, the taller three-story educational building. Many hours were spent as Jack brought the committee's information and plans to the church regarding size, membership projections, space and other aspects of building for the future. After the building plans were accepted, the church elected Jack to the Construction Committee and he served there until the building was completed and he saw the fruits of his committee's labors come to life. Jack continued to have a keen interest in the church and attended until his health prevented him from being present.
I knew Jack in another way as he and Mary were introduced to the wonderful world of Modern Western Square Dancing and the joy "city slicker" camping. Through the years each time we visited, we laughed about the good times together and reminisced about the. crazy things we did. Things were not always so funny, though. One camping trip to Zooland Campground proved this when some "mean" camper cut the water off to Jack's camper just when Mary was taking a shower and washing her hair. That day, Jack came out the door and he was "not a happy camper!" Jack had a quick answer to situations. Once on a square dancing trip to Myrtle Beach we found ourselves in Jack's Surban on a cold icy day. As we stopped at a service station, we saw the car completely covered with ice and icicles hanging all around it. Jack's remark when we were back on our way was, "Did you know that there are no fools in Pittsboro? They are all right here in this car!" Some of you here are smiling as you, too, relate to this experience or others.
Jack was gifted in areas that might surprise us. Did you know that he was a poet? Many of us are fortunate to have some of his poetry to treasure.
It's easy to tell about what someone has done, or said. But I want to talk about Jack, the man. (Now, Jack, I'm going to say something good about you.)
Jack Justice was the most humble person I have ever known. He never bragged; he never felt he was better than any else; I never knew him to belittle or look down on anyone regardless of race or color. He was a gentleman, a devout Christian, a compassionate, honest gentle-spirited man who loved life, enjoyed friendships; a patient man in the midst of illness, a man who loved God and trusted Him. Jack's joy of living was evident in his keen wit...a dry comment that often times had more meaning than it seemed on the surface. There was a quick comment at every opportunity, no time to even think! Last week when I visited Jack he had just had his shower and was dressed for the day. I said to him, "Jack you look as though you are ready to go dancing." As quickly as I spoke he came back with, "What time do you want to leave?"
Jack was a man of integrity - not much got by him. He kept up with current affairs around him. On a recent visit he said. "MM, I've got a new hobby and you won't like it." My question was, "What is it, Jack." With a twinkle in his eye and a chuckle, he said, "I'm playing the lottery!" Hello! I asked him how he was doing and he told me he was breaking even, "right now." That's Jack. Looking to the future!
Jack Justice was a devoted family man. He recently told me when we were talking about how God blesses us daily, that he had been blessed since the day he married Mary. He saw her as the love of his life, his partner, the person he could count on to be there when things were good ... or bad. And his children; Johnnie, George, Barbara, Jean and Anna...he thought of you and your families many times when you didn't even know it. You, along with the grandchildren, were extra gifts given by God to enrich and give meaning to life.
We can remember the things that people do, but it's the heart of a person that remains with us, and that is what I will remember about Jack Justice...his giving, loving heart. I love you, my mend. They had an excellent pool and hot tub, a fridge, microwave and flat panel TV.

June 9th, 2006
We drove into the downtown section and parked the car at the DeSoto Hilton. Since there is so much history, we decided to take a Trolley Tour which lasted most of the day. When we got back we checked in and spent some time at the pool. There was a family get together in the Lion's Den tavern.

June 10th, 2006
A shuttle bus drove several of us staying at the hotel to the home of a friend of Amy's for brunch. We then took a tour of the salt marshes and the beautiful homes surrounding them. The wedding was held at the church on the campus of the Bethesda Home for Boys. The wedding was beautiful. We returned to a wonderful dinner and reception at the DeSoto. We enjoyed the company of both their families and danced until the band stopped playing.

ASNC 6th Annual Spring Fling

The Autism Society of North Carolina held their sixth annual fund raiser at the Teer Farm in Durham, NC.

Lyda and Rich Mihalyi were the most gracious hosts and the ASNC Staff members were involved in organizing and operating the event.

It featured live music, barbecue, and drinks. This was to be an evening with WEEN. Thank the good Lord that they sold ear plugs. Disco Rodeo allows smoking, however, there is not enough ventilation. The place was packed with many rude, tatooed, filthy and chain smoking people. The sound system was old and very distorted. Jean and I stood under an active air vent so we could try to breathe. A can of beer is $3.50. We never did get close enough to see the band. I really regret taking her there and apologized most of the way home. Following is a comment from the Tour Diary...

Finally a night off before the Raleigh show. Went out for thai food and stayed awake late enough to watch the re-run of Sunday's episode of the Sopranos. Got up the next morning and took my guitar to get looked at again. Basically the guy couldn't help me, the frets need to be taken out and the neck needs to be planed. So I'm pretty much stuck playing it this way until after we get home. F**k. The gig was at the same place we played years ago when it was called the Ritz. Now it's called "Disco Rodeo". It is a strange place and the dressing room is a really bad vibe. Only flourescent lights with the walls painted bright yellow, covered in peeling paint and tape. The club itself is strange, try and imagine what a gay, mexican cowboy bar would be like and you'll get some idea. The sound onstage was total s**t but we kicked a** nonethless. I was kinda happy to get the f**k out of there to tell you the truth.

Devils vs. Hurricanes

DEVILS DEAL HURRICANES TOUGH-LUCK OVERTIME LOSS
By David Droschak
CarolinaHurricanes.com

Losses at home have been rare indeed for the Carolina Hurricanes this season. It wasn't very hard to figure out why Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime defeat to the streaking New Jersey Devils was by far the most frustrating.

Equally stymied by future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur and the referees late, the Hurricanes rallied to tie the score three times before Brian Gionta scored the power-play game-winner 28 seconds into OT as the Devils won their eighth straight.

New Jersey's win makes the playoff picture a bit clearer in the Eastern Conference for Carolina, which as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed will now likely play either Montreal or Tampa Bay in the first round. It was the first time this season the Hurricanes managed just one power play, while three third-period penalties, several of them questionable to coach Peter Laviolette and the Carolina players, ended up costing the Hurricanes dearly.

The most controversial call came against Justin Williams with 5:52 left in regulation and the score tied 2-2. Williams raced in behind the New Jersey net and made what appeared to be light contact with Brodeur, who had circled back to try to clear the puck. Brodeur fell down and Williams was called for tripping, a penalty he and Laviolette believe should have been called against Brodeur for interference.

New Jersey ended up scoring on the power play for a 3-2 lead as Rod Brind'Amour played for about a minute without his broken stick.

"It was a terrible call, absolutely terrible," Williams said. "I go behind the net to play the puck and he runs interference on me, falls down and they get a power play out of it. I have all the respect in the world for Marty Brodeur, but I don't think I warranted a penalty just because he fell down."

"It doesn't make any sense to me," Laviolette said. "There were a million hooks and holds that didn't get called out there tonight and to call some penalties that didn't exist or should have been flipped the other way I don't understand. It's very, very frustrating for our team. The game got taken away from the players and that's not the way it's supposed to be."

Matt Cullen was also called for a holding penalty after Laviolette had pulled Martin Gerber to try to get the tying goal, putting the Canes down a man for the final 1:28 of regulation. But after a time out, Gerber was pulled again and Eric Staal was able to pound home his 45th goal on the 5-on-5 to inch within three points of 100 in the season.

While Staal's late goal sent the RBC Center crowd into hysterics, it wasn't long before New Jersey cashed in on the rest of Cullen's penalty early in OT to snatch the win.

After a season of new rules that helped open the game up offensively and a crack down on obstruction, some Carolina players now believe less and less is being called as playoff time approaches.

"Overall, things have changed quite a bit the last few weeks," said Mark Recchi, whose 28th goal and 484th of his career midway through the third period tied the score at 2-2. "I think we all figured that was going to happen."

Laviolette was asked about the officiating several times in his post game and he asked to change the subject several times.

"It seems like we had a stick on us all night and we had one power play," Laviolette said. "I don't know what to explain to the players because somebody is going to have to explain it to me."

The overtime loss leaves Carolina one point behind Ottawa with three games left in the race for No. 1 in the East.

"I have no problem with the way we played tonight, but I've got a problem with the result," Laviolette said. "I thought we were a little bit soft defensively at times and it cost us, but as far as effort and what we were trying to do I liked it."

Carolina didn't get its first power play until there was 1:33 left in the second period, coming one minute after Gerber misplayed a John Madden shot with his blocker that trickled into the net for a 2-1 New Jersey lead. But the Hurricanes managed just one shot on Brodeur and began the third period trailing for just the 29th time this season.

New Jersey scored on its first shot just 1:28 into the game on a 4-on-2 break. But Craig Adams tied it at 1-1 midway through the first as he became the 11th Carolina player to score at least 10 goals this season by beating Brodeur on a rebound shot.

Plone Bootcamp 2006

Had a great time at the 2006 PLONE BOOTCAMP hosted by the Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center, coordinated by Chris Calloway (TriZPUG Member & Plone Developer), and instructed by Joel Burton, (Plone Foundation Chair). It was a great medium to discuss Jason with others all over the globe from the privacy of my room.
After a while I would spend time sharing information about coping. It was difficult and sometimes devastating for parents of newly diagnosed children. Considering that and I would sometimes find myself repeating myself, I began building a portal of national resources. It was generated by using a Visual FoxPro application that converted Excel data into HTML. The main page, http://www.autism-info.com, had a map of the US. The users would point and click a state and a page of Social Groups and Other Resources, Protection and Advocacy Organizations, Educational Resources, Developmental Disabilities Planning, Vocational Rehabilitation Centers, Insurance Departments and Parent Training Information would appear for each state. I maintained and added to this data for the site from 1996 through 2002. It was written up in Newsweek and won several awards.
In July of 2002 I worked with Walter Winfield, Ben Dorman, Jay Haroon and Ronita Wisniewski at the Autism Society of America to convert the data for their resources on-line. Currently it's called the Autism Source and although I don't maintain it anymore, I am very proud of how it came to be. What's left from autism-info.com is called the Chapel Hill Autism Links Underrated, formerly the Chapel Hill Autism Local Unit. Now the local unit is called the Autism Society of North Carolina: Orange & Chatham Chapter.
Early Intervention and Diagnosis is crucial in helping parents, siblings and those affected with acceptance, communication and coping with this lifelong disability.
There are a some surprizing things that Autistic people do. Ann Palmer is the mother of an amazing autistic man who will graduate from North Carolina State University in May of 2006. Her strength and determination to see her son through his many milestones in life is miraculous. She has published a book titled Realizing the College Dream with Autism or Asperger Syndrome: A Parent's Guide to Student Success. Ann sent me a link to a video about Jason McElwain. Jason is autistic and made quite an impression on his schoolmates and their parents. Visit the video titled "Autistic Basketball Player Creates Mayhem At Game". Jason also got to meet with the Commander and Chief. He is quite AWESOME!

Jewel of the Seas Winter 2006

View a WebSlideShow Instead of Reading
January 22nd, 2006
Jean and I were persuaded to go on a voyage upon a cruise ship by Betty, my Stepmom, Connnie, her sister, John, my father and Tom, her brother-in-law. The Jewel of the Seas is one of the many vessels owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International. We flew into Miami International Airport very early in the morning and by lunchtime we were ready to depart from Fort Lauderdale/Port Everglades. We had a several places to eat, two pools, several bars and a beautiful cabin with a balcony on "DECK NINE".
January 23rd, 2006
Key West, Florida - We took an excursion on the Conch Tour Train to see the architecture of this beautiful island. Points of interest are the "Southernmost Point",
Mary Immaculate, landscaping, wild chickens, The Shipwerck Historeum, The Key West Aquarium and The Sponge Man that was hitting on Jean. I did get to "Climb the Tower" so I could better understand "WRECK ASHORE!!!".
We judged the Belly Flop Contest, explored the ship, got intorduced to Captain Jim and the Lead Staff. Then we enjoyed a formal dinner with Dad & Betty and Tom & Connie. We laughed a lot when we returned to our room and found a TV watching visitor.
January 24th, 2006
Cozumel, Mexico - It was rainy and overcast and due to Hurricane Wilma the ship was tendering passengers to shore. Once we got onshore we met the local vendors and took an excursion that involved riding bikes along the ravaged coast to a beach where Jean snorkled for her first time. We were fed and we biked to a sink hole and learned about fresh water, mangrove trees, coral and the many caverns throughout the island. Tendered back, had excellent lunch & dinner, saw a show about Broadway and went dancing. When we returned we had a friend to hang out with.
January 25th, 2006
Costa Maya, Mexico - The weather was still overcast. This port had a dock to tie the ship to. The beaches went on for miles. Guess who we bumped into when we arrived. This coincidence of us crossing each others paths had occurred several times by now, really neat. Anyway, Dad & Betty and Tom & Connie went shopping while Jean and I boarded a bus that took us through the jungle bound for Uvero, which has a beach where you can swim with the dolphins, drink Tequila or just stay on the beach. They made drinks for us, we walked around a bit, played with a crab in a cup, a huge snail and an orange starfish. I swam around with goggles, tried to catch some sun rays, and really enjoyed the place.
The natives made sure they were noticed. When we returned to the port, we saw one of the sister ships. After dinner we enjoyed a Tribute to the Temptations, and then went dancing at the 70's Night. At bedtime this dude was holding my pillow.
January 26th, 2006
Georgetown, Grand Cayman Islands -We were excited about this excursion. This port was really busy and we were tendered in by on-board vessels. It was bright and sunny, many ships were tendering, and our ship had the newest and coolest. Our excursion was cancelled due to rough water (yea ryte), so we settled for a downgrade. I was upset at first, but we made the best of it because Jean was smiling so much and drinks were included.
Then we had another formal dinner to attend and Jean was all shimmerimng. She is so AWESOME!. We spent an hour in the hot tub and found a swimming buddy.
January 27th, 2006
Jewel of the Seas - Enroute back to Port Everglades the ship went around the west end of Cuba. It was very windy. Another ship was just behind. We spent much of the day in the Solarium pool. We went shopping and watched a towel folding class. The afternoon we got sun at the outdoor pool. Packed our bags, had dinner, went dancing until late and found a sting ray.
January 28th, 2006
Port Everglades - Spent much of today in the library waiting for our shuttle color to be called. We bounced Miami to Raleigh in about 3 hours. The end (Sigh)

Chicago in Spring 2005

May 1st, 2005
Jean and I flew on American Airlines flight 1919 to Chicago Ohare and made a pitstop at Portillos for lunch. Hail bounced in the parking lot while we ate just to remind me how the Chicago winters linger. We then went and saw The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy so Jean could get a nap and I could feel chumped into seeing such a dumb movie. We then went to Aunt Lou and David's house for dinner. Auntie was putting together an excellent dinner while David helped Mary get in a nap before dinner. They had invited Cathy (behind the couch), Tom, Ryan and Aaron, Cindy, Nicolette, Danette, Anthony, Tom, John. We watched some TV and enjoyed the fire in a huge and comfy room downstairs which Aunt and David had made up for us.

May 2nd, 2005
Mary Margaret was getting ready for the day. Jean and I think she is really smart and cute. Auntie made some great coffee while waiting for my cousin Tom. He drove from El Paso, Il to rendezvous with Mary Margaret. We took a trip to check out Aunt Lou's newly acquired house in Bristol. Jean and I went up to the Fox Valley Mall and then saw Sahara at the AMC Cantera 30. We returned to Aunt's and tried to finish what was left from the night before.

May 3rd, 2005
We had a big breakfast in the morning and went for a walk on the path behind the house. We decided to go into the city to see the Shedd Aquarium. On the way back through the suburbs we went for a stroll through Lilacia Park in Lombard. We took some pictures with the tulips, Jean by the daffodils, near the entrance, lilacs up close, more lilacs up close, by the crabapples, Jean by the crabapples, Jean by the lilacs and one of us. We then stopped in Lisle to visit LaFinesse, a spa and salon that my Aunt owns in Lisle. We had a Chicago style pizza at Lou Malnatis then went to Cathy and Tom's house. We spent the evening talking with the Maneys.

May 4th, 2005
We went down to the Naperville Riverwalk and saw the Millennium Carillon. We had brunch with Cathy at Grandma Sally's. Then we embarked on a journey to Tinley Park to see Dad and Betty. They were not at home, so we saw The Interpreter. Then we drove back to the Maney's, watched LOST and ate pork chops.

May 5th, 2005
We drove to Delevan to see my Grandfather, Aunt Jo and Uncle Ralph. Tom and Mary Margaret met us there because Tom was picking up some antique foot lockers and Aunt Jo had a cake and presents for Mary Margaret's birthday. We checked into Lake Lawn Lodge and went to Lake Geneva and had dinner with my cousin Callie at the Cactus Club.

May 6th, 2005
We had breakfast in the Frontier and decided to go swimming. My Mom called and we went to see my Grandmother's grave with my Grandfather. We had lunch with my Mom and Grandpa. We went shopping, back into the pool and then sat by the fireplace next to the pool.

May 7th, 2005
We had breakfast in the Frontier again. Then we checked out and drove to Oakbrook to have lunch with my Dad and Betty at Maggiano's. Then we drove downtown Chicago and checked into the Holiday Inn. Ryan and Aaron, my nephews, came and picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the United Center to see my favorite band, U2. Bono (Paul Hewson 5.10.60), Edge (Dave Evans 8.8.61), Adam Clayton (3.13.60) and Larry Mullen Jr. (10.31.61) were fascinating. Really awesome stage too. The new, rear-wheel-drive Challenger concept drew its inspiration especially from the original Challenger that debuted in 1970. It is the model most sought after by collectors.
The characteristic wide-mouth grille is there. So are the rectangular tailpipes and pistol-grip shifter. Even the Challenger’s black racing stripes on the hood are on the new concept. But instead of being done with paint, the stripes on the concept car are exposed carbon fiber.
The four-passenger Challenger concept also has six manual speeds, rather than the four speeds of the original car. The single, large rear taillight is illuminated by diffuse neon in the concept, and tires and wheels are 20-inchers.
The front and rear track are 64 and 65 inches, respectively, which is wider than that of the 1970 Challenger. And the side glass is narrower than it was on the original Challenger.
The Challenger concept is powered by Chrysler’s 425-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI V8 whose deep tones were heard at the press conference. Chrysler officials said the
car should go from 0-to-60 miles an hour in 4.5 seconds, which is on par with many sports cars, and top speed is 174 mph.
If given a final OK for production, the Challenger could be in showrooms by the 2009 model year.

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Driving down 276 through the Smoky Mountains was beautiful and adventurous. We took a picture of our family in front of the Looking Glass Falls after we froze ourselves in the river on the Sliding Rock. We stayed at the Hampton Inn located just outside of the entrance. We slept soundly since we had a long drive and ate too much.
August 5th, 2002
We drove to Naperville, IL where my Sister Cathy, her Husband Tom and my Nephew Ryan live. We missed seeing my Nephew Aaron since he is involved in an internship at Ball State, IN, however we did see my Brother Mike and his friend Al.
August 6th, 2002
We made ourselves at home at the Maney residence eating all of their popsicles and drinking their OJ. We picked up Russel and headed to Delevan, WI to visit my Grandfather Joe. We stopped in Beloit, WI to refuel and have lunch. We were lured into the Cheese and Fireworks Superstore and cracked up at thier mascot mouse while Russel and Jason waited outside. Steve and Kyle were disappointed that YOU MUST BE 18 to make a purchase though. It was great to see my Grandfather, and shared in missing my Grandmother. Jason hopped around the place. We putted golf balls for a while and Steve and Kyle begged my Grandfather for some of his hats. Their favorite was a modifed version of a fishing hat and he told them they could have them. My Grandfather has a beautiful pothos plant in his bay window. Steve and I were challanged when trying to stand a golf ball onto a golf tee encased in a globe filled with water. My Uncle Ralph came home and we got to visit with him before we started off to El Paso, near Bloomington, IL to visit my Cousin Tom and his Wife Theresa. Steve and Kyle really wanted to drive...NOT!!!
Our first stop was T.J. Toad's Model Raceway & Hobby Corner which was owned and operated by my Cousin Tom. We got to race model cars for a while on the raceway track, and then Theresa and Mary Margaret came by. Tom prepared to close down while Theresa let Steve and Kyle hold their bundle of joy. He showed me his new train set project for the front window and his remote control Punisher Truck. Tom was the model for "The Punisher" a Marvel Comic character. As you can see Tom is quite cool! We then went down front street for pizza night, caravanned over to Dairy Queen for desert, stopped by their house to see pictures of the christening and more of Tom's carpentry skills in his garage. They'll be moving into a new home across the street soon. Wow! We then drove back to Naperville, IL.
August 7th, 2002
Steve helped Cathy plant a bunch of stuff in their backyard around the new Maney waterfall. We zipped over to Villa Park, IL to visit with their Grandmother Kathy, Grandfather Ron, Cousin Joslyn, Cousin Craig, Mom Rachel, Aunt Lydia and Uncle Fernando. We took some family pictures, went on the swings in the park nearby and had Portillo's for lunch. Jason enjoyed the shade and we played horseshoes. We sat in the front yard. Here's a closeup of Joslyn. We went back to Naperville, IL, chopped up some fruit and went by my Aunt Lou and her Husband David for dinner on their outdoor deck with Cathy and Ryan. Here's some shots of Kyle, Steve and Jason, and some of us with my Aunt.
August 8th, 2002
Here's a picture of the Maney Rat Terrier Oscar. We had breakfast with Russel and Ryan at Grandma Sally's. We picked up Ken and drove to Tinley Park, IL to meet up with Rachel for the Area II Concert. We got to the Tweeter Center at 3:30pm and we saw Ash, The Blue Man Group, Busta Rhymes, David Bowie and Moby back to back. The concert lasted until 10:30pm and it was AWESOME! We spent the night in Tinley Park and Russel gave Ken and Ryan a ride back to Naperville. I was REALLY tired.
August 9th, 2002
We left around 9:30 am, had brunch in Indianapolois, IN and dinner in Huntington, WV and arrived home in Chapel Hill, NC around midnight. THAT was a looooooooooooooooooonnnng looooooooooooooooooonnnng drive.
